This year the Tim Hortons Southside Shuffle Annual Blues and Jazz Festival rewarded a highly deserving student in the music program at Cawthra Park Secondary School.  The “Southside Shuffle Music Achievement Award" and a Cheque for $750.00 is presented to a student who has shown outstanding achievement in the Music Program and has been selected by the Cawthra Music Staff in conjunction with the board and artistic director of the Southside Shuffle. This year the award goes to Evan Alzamora.

 

Evan Alzamora is a kind, patient student with a true passion for music.  During his time in our vocal program, Evan has performed in all of our choirs and played percussion in Senior Band.  He has developed a deep interest in jazz and began developing his piano and harmony skills becoming a dedicated student of musical complexity and composition.  This past year he and Soroosh took on the role of student directors leading "The Boys in B" chorus who were featured at our Spring Spectacular.  Beyond his performance work, Evan is an inquisitive and respectful member of his class.  He has been accepted into the York University music program to continue his journey and the music department congratulates him on being the first recipient of this award.
